2011 Miss World Sports Final Results

With the fitness trials completed in London to determine the top six competitors in each group, the stage was set for the 2011 Miss World Sports Final, which was held at Crieff Hydro as part of the Miss World tour of Scotland. Contestants competed in three disciplines, with both team and individual events – swimming, running, and traditional Highland games. Each group were given their team colours to show support for each other, with the representatives of each group as follows:
Group 1 (Red):  Bonaire, Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Chile, Bolivia
Group 2 (Green): Czech Republic, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Botswana
Group 3 (Blue): Panama, Paraguay, Jamaica, Latvia, Portugal, Germany
Group 4 (Orange): Trinidad & Tobago, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Singapore, Uganda, Scotland
First on the day’s action-packed schedule was the swimming. Contestants from each group gathered at the poolside to cheer on their team-mates across six races. The speediest swimmers in each heat were Bonaire, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Latvia, Chile and Scotland. At the end of the swimming races, Group 2 were the leaders, but the day’s events were just getting started.
The main section of the Sports Final was the Highland games, a series of challenges testing strength, accuracy and speed, inspired by traditional Scottish pursuits. Held atop a picturesque hill surrounded by woodland and a stunning landscape, each group tried their hand at Shot Put, Tossing the Caber (launching a long wooden pole and flipping it as far as you can), and the ‘Haggis’ Hurling (throwing a tartan ball as close to the central target, a fluffy highland cow, as possible). The 24 competitors tried their hands with increasing weights of shot puts and cabers and despite it being the first time many of them had done anything like these events before, there were many highly impressive attempts in each of the games. The air was filled with chanting and music, as the spectators cheered on their fellow contestants and a bagpiper played his pipes to add an extra local flavour to proceedings.
The Highland Games finished with a team relay – the Farmer’s Dash. The teams had to negotiate an obstacle course while carrying first a bag of hay, then two wooden logs, and finally two water carriers. First across the finishing line in the final was Group 4, beating Group 1 into second place. In the play-offs, Group Three and Group Two ended up in third and fourth place respectively.
Finally, the climax of the Sports Final, the sprint dash and shuttle run (a team relay in which the first participant runs to a set point and back, the second to a further point and back, and so on). Trinidad & Tobago, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Latvia, Uganda and Scotland all triumphed in their respective heats of the sprint competition. In the shuttle run Group 3 crossed the finishing line first, followed by Group 4, Group 1, and Group 2.
After an exhilarating day, it was time for the all-important announcement of the Sports Team Winners, based on the results of the team events in the three sports sections. Miss World Alexandria Mills presented the medals to the successful team members as they took to the podium.
1st Place: Group 3, the Blue Team.
2nd Place: Group 4, the Orange Team.
3rd Place: Group 2, the Green Team.
4th Place: Group 1, the Red Team.
Guatemala and Bolivia also collected special awards for the ‘Haggis’ Hurling, for getting closest to the bull’s-eye, picking up a cuddly highland cow toy each. An extra title was awarded to Group 2, the Green Team, for being the Best Team Supporters.
Congratulations to Group 3  (Sc: MW)

Change of Venue: Due to floods in Bangkok, Miss Earth 2011 will be held in the Philippines

Change of Venue: Due to floods in Bangkok, Miss Earth 2011 will be held in the Philippines

Miss Earth 2011 was to be held in Bangkok on December 3
Due to the critical situation that Thailand is facing in its capital Bangkok, the Miss Earth 2011 pageant -scheduled to take place Nov. 20 – Dec. 3- in this city, has been moved to Manila, Philippines, its original home base.
In a letter sent to all contestants and directors, Lorraine Schuck, Executive Vice President of Carousel Productions, addressed the current situation in Thailand and confirmed the event being held in the Philippines.
“We have tried to remain optimistic about the situation in Thailand but day after day, the flood continues to engulf more portions of the country including its capital, Bangkok, where Miss Earth 2011 is scheduled to be held. Factories are shutting down and millions have been displaced from their work and homes. We understand and sympathize with the unfortunate and difficult situation Bangkok is undergoing especially after the Thai government recently declared indefinite holidays for everyone’s safety. Thai officials estimate it might take 4-6 weeks for the floods to recede and recovery could take months, if not years.
To continue to hold Miss Earth in Bangkok would be very insensitive and irresponsible on our part. Accordingly, we have decided to change the venue of Miss Earth 2011 from Bangkok, Thailand to where it all started: the Philippines. We are at this very moment planning and lining up meaningful activities for you that will be true to our mission as beauties for a cause. In our workshops, we shall discuss these natural calamities and what we can do to control their effects on our respective countries.”  said the letter.
The announcement of Thailand as host of Miss Earth took place last June during the coronation of Miss Philippines-Earth. Originally scheduled to take place in Pattaya, the contest moved to Bangkok where it would be held at the Impact Arena.
The Miss Earth 2011 pageant will now take place in Manila, on Sunday, December 4th.
On a side note, it was also confirmed by Vietnamese authorities that Miss Earth 2012 will be held in Ninh Thuan, Vietnam, in December 2012.

Miss Asia Pacific World: a shameful contest

Miss Asia Pacific World: a shameful contest

The Korean "winner" resigned
Earlier this year, a man by the name of Lawrence Choi launched a contest which was supposed to be the revival of the traditional Miss Asia Pacific. He promised national directors from around the world air tickets for the candidates, great cash prizes, and worldwide broadcast of a “magnificent event” to be held in South Korea.
The pageant, which was supposed to happen in the first semester, took place only in October after moving the date three times. First Warning.
Just when the chosen contestants were preparing to fly to the pageant in May, another email was sent to national directors saying: “The competition will be held in October, and the directors will have to pay for the delegates’ airfare (going against what had been originally offered)”.  Most directors immediately withdrew.  After all these delegates were removed from the pageant’s website, on their Facebook page, organizers said “it had been the work of a ‘hacker’”. They never explained that such candidates had withdrawn from the competition due to their lack of  organization and word.
But all of that was nothing compared to what the 40+ candidates had to face once they arrived  in Korea.
For instance, Miss Venezuela placed second in the “talent competition”, without having performed! The girls had to sleep on the floor, as there were not enough beds in their hotel rooms; they barely had enough food to eat. And it does not end there: Amy Willerton, the British candidate, fled the competition along with other girls after being offered votes in exchange for sex (READ HERE).
Miss Guyana published a series of videos on Youtube showing some of the most absurd situations which took place in this event.

In the end, an all-Korean panel of judges chose Miss Korea as the winner, something that, at that point, really did not matter (candidates who saw the voting sheets claimed the Korean contestant placed 3rd in reality). Some girls took days to be allowed to return home, because the “host hotel” held them back for not paying their hotel bills, which was of the pageant organizers’ responsibilities.
It is important to note that Mr Choi used the “Miss Asia Pacific” name without legal permit, once this scam clearly has nothing to do with the real Miss Asia Pacific pageant, ran by Filipinos. Things became even worse when the organization added “World” to the pageant’s name, after all, Miss World Asia Pacific is the title the best ranked candidate in the region gets in the Miss World competition.
Earlier this year, Global Beauties was invited to cover and give promotion to this pageant, but refused to do so. It was finally covered by a fan page which shamefully appears as one of the pageant’s “sponsors”.
Lawrence Choi blamed the local committees in each of the three Korean cities for the pageant’s fiasco. However, the man had plenty of time to organize the pageant, which had been originally scheduled for June 4, and it was HIS PAGEANT, which means, it was his responsibility. The winner, Park Sae-Byul, resigned after she found out that organizers would not give her any of the promised prizes -- US$ 30 thousand in cash + US$ 170 thousand in “goods” (whatever that means). None of the winners would receive their prizes after Choi declared the pageant “a failure”.
At the moment, several organizations are taking legal matters against this pageant, among them the owners of the original “Miss Asia Pacific” trademark.  Also, a considerable amount of directors who sent delegates to this event have also been sounding off in social media, explaining the situation.
We hope this horrible pageant episode ends in the courts and that Mister Choi and all the parties involved pay for their crimes.
It will serve as an alert to pageant directors: they should be careful with “new pageants” they send their candidates to. Clearly the 47 women who participated in Korea ran serious risk away from home.
