Miss Ecuador 2012 is Carolina Aguirre

Carolina Aguirre, a 19-year old university student from Guayaquil, was crowned Miss Ecuador 2012 during an event held at the Puerto Marina Yacht Club in La Libertad on March 16th.


Aguirre stands 177 cm in height and also won the awards of Miss Cielo and Rostro Yanbal. She will represent her country during the Miss Universe 2012 pageant to be held in December.
Miss Ecuador World 2012
Crowned Miss World Ecuador is Cipriana Correia Macias, from Esmeraldas. She is 21 years old, stands 173 cm tall, and will compete in the 62nd Miss World competition to be held in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China, in August.
Miss Ecuador International is 20-year old Tatiana Loor Hidalgo from Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas. She will travel to Chengdu, China, to the Miss International competition in November.

Tatiana Chele, Nicole Cevallos and Sulay Castillo completed the top 6 finalists. They will represent Ecuador in the Miss Supranational, Reina Hispanoamericana and Miss Atlantico Internacional competitions.

Miss World Colombia 2012

Miss World Colombia 2012

Miss World Colombia 2012 was crowned in a private ceremony which took place earlier this week, and she is Barbara Turbay, 19, a Communication university student who from Bogota currently residing in Miami.
Because of Miss World’s calendar change (it will happen in July/August for the first time ever), just like several other countries, Colombia organized a special casting call to choose its representative in Miss World 2012. The winner of Miss World Colombia, which will happen on the second semester, will compete in Miss World 2013.
Barbara Turbay will represent Colombia in Ordos, China, where Miss World 2012 will be held. Miss World 2012 will be crowned on August 18.

Miss Universe 2012 to be held in Las Vegas?

According to Eddy Martin, columnist of the Yahoo! Blog “Lo que te Perdiste” (What you have missed), the 2012 Miss Universe pageant could return to the city of lights, Las Vegas, this coming December.
Following the announcement of the Miss USA contest to be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on June 3rd, Martin adds that a very reliable source from the MUO organization, revealed that the Miss Universe pageant could come back to Las Vegas.
If confirmed, it would be the fourth time in history Las Vegas will welcome the international contest. It was held in Sin City in 1991, 1996 and 2010.
No official announcement has been made about a host city yet, however, all national directors were informed weeks ago that the Miss Universe competition has been moved to mid-December.
All kinds of rumours surrounding this year’s venue have made headlines on the internet, including the possibility of Sun City (South Africa), Guadalajara (Mexico) and the Atlantis Resort (Bahamas).
Martin also added to his blog that the announcement of the 2012 Miss Universe Host City will be made during the conclusion of the Miss USA 2012 telecast, to take place Sunday June 3rd on NBC.

Miss World 2002 Azra Akin, image for Women’s Rights




Miss World 2002 Azra Akın and actress Songül Öden have become the voice and the face of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Turkey Office’s campaign to prevent violence against women.
In their first action, Akın and Öden hosted a concert titled “Women Songs” on March 10, performed by the State Polyphonic Choir. The concert was jointly organized by the Culture and Tourism Ministry and UNFPA in Ankara.
Raising awareness
At a press conference held before the concert, UNFPA Turkey Representative Zahidul Huque said that UNFPA had been working for women’s and children’s rights and collecting data from all over the world.  Huque said that they had decided to work with well-known Turkish names Akın and Öden in order to raise awareness about violence against women in Turkey, and added that it was very important for them to get the support of famous people.
She said that Akın, who was chosen as Miss World in 2002, was in a very strong position in Turkey and the world to help strengthen the position of women.
Hurque added that Öden was very famous as well thanks to her TV series’, especially in the Arab world, and that she worked passionately for women’s rights.

Miss World Ivian Sarcos to visit Fiji

FIJI will play host to the reigning Miss World next month. Miss Venezuela Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares will be guest at the Miss World Fiji pageant.
Miss World Fiji national director Andhy Blake said Miss Colmenares’ visit could be seen as a privilege for the 20 semi-finalists.
“She (Miss World) will be able to share on the amount of charity work she is involved in.”Our girls will realise that Miss World is not just about beauty, it is also about charity. “The visit will help build confidence in our girls and encourage them to try out for next year.”
Fiji returns to the Miss World competition after an absence of 8 years. Their last contestant took part on the 2004 edition. The finals of Miss World Fiji will be held on April 21st, with the winner going on to compete in the 62nd Miss World finals in Ordos, China.

Top Model of the World 2012



A model from Italy, Luna Voce, won the title of Top Model of the World 2012 during an event held at the Hohensyburg casino in Dortmund, Germany, on March 10th.  Voce (24) is not new to the pageant scene: She competed in the Miss International 2008 and Miss Earth 2009 pageants.
The 1st runner-up was Zimbabwe’s Malaika Mushandu, who is the reigning Miss Zimbabwe and was a Top 15 finalist in the Miss World 2011 pageant held in London, last November. The 2nd runner-up was Colombia’s Melina Ramirez Serna (21).
Denmark and Venezuela completed the Top 5.
47 contestants competed in the finals.
