Miss Universe 2011 - National Costume Competition: Axed

Some significant changes have been taking place during the 60th Miss Universe pageant, when it comes to the usual pre-events.  The National Costume competition, which has been slowly fading during the past editions, will not take place this year.  It all started in 2006, when an impromptu competition took place during the pre-taping of the delegates’ introductions and the winner was Miss Japan.

In 2007, the contestants paraded their costumes at a plaza in Mexico City; however, no winner was awarded a prize.  In 2009, a competition took place with all beauties showcasing their costumes. No winner was announced during this competition, nor in the telecast.  Some outlets published Miss Panama had won this award, but never got an official recognition from the MUO.

In 2010, there was not a costume show, rather than a parade held at the lobby of the Mandalay Bay Resort with local photographers. The winner of the Best Costume award was chosen by members of Club Universe by online votes.

We get information that the TV audience will get to see a segment with the national costumes (like those in 1998, 2000, 2003-2005). But no competition will be held.

The traditional swimsuit tableau (the official swimsuit photograph with all contestants) has been eliminated as well, as reported. Unless there are changes, don’t expect to see the annual swimsuit poster which was a Miss Universe tradition, except in 2004.

In the meantime, make sure to log in to www.missuniverse.com on September 8th for the 2011 Presentation Show, to feature all 89 contestants in swimsuits and gowns at 7:30 pm (EST)/8:30 pm local Sao Paulo time/1:30 am Central European Time.

Road to Miss International 2011:
Baixue Yuting was crowned Miss International China 2011 on August 24 in Beijing. Baixue Yuting from Henan is 19 year old and stands 1.72m. She will represent China in Miss International 2011 on Chengdu, China next November. The 1st Runner-up was Tu Yajun and the 2nd Runner-up was Gao Liyuan.

Miss World Sweden 2011

Road to Miss World 2011:
Nicoline Artursson was crowned Miss World Sweden 2011 at the National pageant held at the Winter Garden -Vinterträdgården- of the Grand Hôtel Stockholm on September 3, 2011. Nicoline of Halmstad is 18 year old. She will represent Sweden in Miss World 2011 Pageant, to be held in London, England on November 6, 2011. The first runner-up was Malin Brattström and the second runner-up was Maxime Calington. The top five includes Sara Bolay and Helen Beyto. Miss World 2010, Alexandria Mills, crowned the new Miss World Sweden 2011. Julia Morley was also present at the the big final.

Moira Farmas Crowned Mrs. Universe 2011

Venezuela won another International Beauty Pageant!!! Moira Farmas from Venezuela was crowned Mrs. Universe 2011 at the event held at Hotel Kailaka, Pleven City, Bulgaria on August 27, 2011. The first runner-up was Malka Devenish from Colombia. The second runner-up was Jane Taylor from United Kingdom. The third runner-up was Maria Eroshenko from Russia. The fourth runner-up was Paolina Petrakieva from Bulgaria.

Trump will not be in Brazil

According to a column published in Jornal da Manha do Sao Paulo, authored by journalist Flavio Ricco, Donald Trump, half-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, cancelled his trip to Brazil due to commitments he has in Scotland during those days.  Representatives of Rede Bandeirantes, responsible of bringing the pageant to the country, stated that “Trump was very, very, sorry that he won’t be able to attend” and also added that “business is business”.

So we won’t get to see “the Donald” and his famous notepad meeting the girls one by one.  However, if the judging system used in the last year still applies, representatives of the Miss Universe Organization will choose a portion of the Top 15 semi finalists.

Miss World Guam 2011

After a 15-year hiatus, a new Miss Guam World was presented last night at the Hyatt Regency Guam, when Siera Robertson was crowned the 2011 Miss Guam World.  Robertson was also named the winner in the Best in Evening Gown competition.
Anya Mendiola was the 1st runner up and Miss Personality (this category was voted among her peers), Natalia Faculo was the 2nd runner up, Best in Swimsuit,  the Madeleine Bordallo Beauty with a Purpose Award (she raised $8,284.83 for the ALEE Children’s Shelter), and the iConnect People’s Choice Award garnering 34% of 32,000 total votes.  Alisa Eclavea placed as 3rd runner up, and Leialoha Borja won Miss Photogenic.
“Everyone was awe-struck by all fourteen beauties last night.  They all stepped up their game and Siera came up victorious.  Miss Guam World’s return was a huge success thanks to the dedication of these fourteen beautiful and talented women!” said Pinki Lujan, 2011 Miss Guam World Pageant Director.
